In February, JSOL, Cris Phan and Han Sara were the celebrities who contributed to making social slang more viral. In March, social slang continued to be “used” by some celebrities such as Quang Hung MasterD and Son Tung M-TP for media posts.

2. Winning Life/Losing Life

“Winning/Losing Life” is a slang duo that emerged from the 2025 Chinese New Year. Initially, the slang duo was used to summarize or share memorable moments from the beginning of the year.

  • “Victory” usually refers to a slight “flex” about personal fortunes.
  • “Losing your life” is a way of “mocking” yourself in a humorous way in front of things that do not suit you.

Despite appearing for a relatively long time than the lifespan of a hot topic, the duo “Win Life/Lose Life” attracted 440,415 discussions in March. The social slang duo is commonly used in posts related to love.

3. +1 Machine

“+1 Machine” is the expression used to express the state of “I too...” — the same view, the same situation, or the same feelings as someone. The formula of this slang is extremely simple: “+1 Machine” + a prominent action/state of self, e.g.

  • “+1 nyc camcorder”
  • “+1 parking machine scholarship”

In Q1 2025, this slang recorded 1,971,111 discussions, mostly on TikTok. Thanks to its versatility, easy to understand, and easy to integrate into any context, “+1 Machine” is quickly widely used by the online community to share their personal stories.

4. Generations of whack-a-mole

The “laid-back generation” is the social slang used by many Gen Z youth to describe themselves: Young people who enter the labor market with a chill guy/laid-back style of communication. So far, the “slacker generation” has appeared in many different contexts: the generation that releases concerts, the generation that releases mothers, the generation that releases as teachers, etc. However, the phenomenon of the “release generation” has also caused controversy as older users claim that Gen Z guys get off in some serious, professional situations.
